Breeze Blocks

This is the largest structure that both James and Collide have projected onto. The artwork was commissioned by Brisbane Open House and supported by Brisbane City Council in 2018. The work is an analogue projection of tiled breezeblocks onto William Jolly bridge.

Working with James’ interest in Queensland architecture, as well as examining how history, growth and architecture impact cities’ identities and the people who live in them. James took photographs of breeze blocks underneath a traditional Queenslander home and repeated that shape to create a shift in scale. This scale then translated small building materials into the large-scale architecture of the bridge.
